LinkedIn passes one million members in Norway

Oslo, Norway – February 22, 2014 – LinkedIn, the world's largest professional network with more than 277 million members worldwide, today announced it has passed one million member in Norway. The company also announced today that its Norwegian members are some of the most engaged in the world for LinkedIn. Norway is the latest of the Nordic markets to pass the milestone, following Sweden and Denmark.

“One million Norwegian members is an important milestone for us, illustrating that Norwegian professionals really understand the potential of LinkedIn to network, showcase their experience and seek out job opportunities. Our data also shows that our Norwegian members are one of the most engaged audiences in the world for LinkedIn. They’re adding new information to their profiles, share knowledge, build their network and get access to a world of potential connections, business partners, investors, employers and employees,” explains Lars Ingerslev, Head of Talent Solutions, LinkedIn Nordics.

Norwegians are amongst the most active and engaged LinkedIn members in all of Europe, as well as having some of the most avid social networkers across the region; almost 1 in 4 Norwegians members visit their LinkedIn profile weekly or daily. 16 percent of the Norwegian users also say they think they will use LinkedIn even more the next six months.

Norway’s ‘mobile moment’

Norway is also ranked as one of the top 10 countries with highest mobile usage of LinkedIn, with more than 50 percent of members now accessing the site purely using mobile. This uptake in mobile has been driven in part by product innovations such as the LinkedIn iPad app, enabling professionals to stay connected and up to speed with the latest industry trends wherever they may be working.

LinkedIn’s Norwegian membership data released to celebrate the announcement paints an interesting picture of the professional make-up of the country:

  • The biggest sector in terms of employment is Oil & Energy industry;
  • The biggest employer of LinkedIn members in Norway is the Statoil;
  • More Norwegian LinkedIn members were educated in Handelshøyskolen BI than any other university in Norway.
