LinkedIn Professional Network Reaches 10 Million Users
Palo Alto, CA — April 11, 2007 — LinkedIn, the world’s largest and most effective professional network, today announced that it has reached 10-million users. The ten-millionth member was a businessman from Belgium who signed up after a former colleague invited him to reconnect on the network.
The LinkedIn network is currently growing at a rate of over 130,000 members a week, with 14 new members joining each minute. While anyone can sign up for LinkedIn, most users join upon receiving an invitation from a friend or colleague.
“LinkedIn is fundamentally changing the way business is conducted in the U.S. and abroad,” said Dan Nye, CEO of LinkedIn. “This milestone demonstrates that more and more professionals are using LinkedIn as a critical business tool.” With 10 million members, the LinkedIn network is already bigger than the entire professional population of Australia, and the figure exceeds the combined circulations of Business Week, Forbes, Fortune, Money, Newsweek, and the Wall Street Journal. The LinkedIn site, where its members connect to access people, jobs and opportunities, was nominated by The Webby Awards, the leading international honor for the Web, as the Best Website 2007 in three categories: Employment, Services and Social Networking. Hailed as the “Oscars of the Internet” by the New York Times, the Webby awards will announce winners on May 1.
In addition to individual users, LinkedIn has more than 350 corporate customers, covering a spectrum of industries including tech giants Microsoft, eBay, Intuit and Adobe, leading mass market retailers such asCircuit City, Target and Walmart.com, and top consumer brands such as L’Oreal and NetFlix. Its professional members represent all five hundred of the Fortune 500 companies, as well as a wide range of household names in technology, financial services, media, consumer packaged goods, entertainment, fashion, and numerous other industries. Advertisers on LinkedIn currently include BMW, SAP, American Express, Sony, and American Airlines.
